Cutaneous adverse reaction of amiodarone

0 0 207 4 months ago
A young male with ischemic cardiomyopathy and ICD for secondary prevention presents with erythematous appearance with accompanying pruritus in the parts exposed to sunlight which begins "several minutes" after exposure. He was on amiodarone 400 mg/day for the last 6 months. Phototoxic reactions might even occur a few months after the withdrawal of amiodarone because of its long elimination time. In the literature there are also descriptions of prolonged photosensitivity cases (up to 15 years following the discontinuation of therapy) PMID: 16045677
